Keep reading to learn more about the benefits of dental implants, our treatment process, and if you’re an ideal candidate.
What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are a permanent restorative solution that can replace any number of missing teeth. They provide a natural-looking appearance and restore your missing teeth from root to crown. Implants naturally integrate with your jawbone for unmatched stability and strength. Best of all, dental implants can be a lifelong solution with the proper care.
Dental implants are placed strategically into the jawbone. Over the course of several months, the bone surrounding the implant grows, securing it into place. Once that’s complete, replacement teeth are then attached to the implant, filling the gap and giving you a fully functional smile once again.
Dental Implant Benefits
If you choose implants to replace your missing teeth, you’ll receive a variety of benefits that other restorative treatments can’t match, including:
- Natural appearance
- Full functionality
- Secured to your jaw
- Easy to maintain
- Resistant to decay
- Stimulates healthy jawbone growth
- Lifelong solution
Receiving Your Dental Implants
The process of your new smile will be completed in a series of steps:
Initial Consultation
Your first step in receiving your dental implants includes an initial consultation with Dr. Gaeta at our Kailua-Kona dental office. We’ll evaluate your teeth, gums, and jawbone to ensure that you have enough bone density for successful dental implant placement. If you have an insufficient jawbone density, we may suggest undergoing a supplemental procedure, such as a bone graft, before receiving your dental implants.
Once we’ve determined if you qualify for dental implants, we’ll schedule your implant placement appointment.
Placing The Implants
Dr. Gaeta will create your customized treatment plan, and you’ll return to our Kailua-Kona dental office where he’ll place your dental implants. Your implants will be placed directly into your jawbone. This process typically takes about an hour and a half per dental implant. You can expect to feel some mild discomfort after your procedure, but you can ease this feeling with over-the-counter medications.
Osseointegration
After your dental implants are placed, you’ll go through a 3 to 6 month recovery period. This allows adequate time for osseointegration, the natural process of your dental implant integrating with your jawbone. This process allows your natural jawbone to strengthen and grow around the implant.
Final Restoration
Once your mouth has fully healed, you’ll return once again to our Kailua-Kona office for your customized restoration. Depending on your needs, this may be a porcelain crown, a fixed dental bridge, or full-arch dentures. At this appointment, we’ll place your restoration and make sure you’re happy with the final result. You’ll leave our office ready to show off your brand new smile.
Dental Implant Candidacy
If you’re looking for a tooth replacement solution that allows you to eat all your favorite foods, speak with ease, and smile confidently, you may be a great candidate for dental implants. Unlike traditional dentures, implants don’t slip or slide around your mouth and can be cleaned just like your natural teeth.
More patients than ever before qualify for dental implants. However, patients need to have a sufficient amount of jawbone density to ensure a successful implant procedure. Fortunately, there are supplemental procedures available to increase your jawbone density to prepare you for dental implant surgery.
